Abstract. We use the recent results we have developed in the paper
"Set-valued pseudomonotone maps and degenerate evolution inclusions,"
to establish the solvability of the model for bilateral dynamic frictional contact
between a viscoelastic body and a reactive foundation. The novelty is that the
friction coefficient is assumed to adepend on the relative slip rate and may be
discontinous, a graph having an interval of values from the dynamic value to the static one
when the slip rate is zero. When the coefficient is Lipschitz continuous the solution
is shown to be unique.
