Analysis of frictional properties of braking systems

Investigation of friction and material properties of materials
used in modern braking systems is presented. Experiments were
condcted to measure the temperature on the surface of a steel disc,
and to determine the normal pressure applied to it. The disc brake was
subjected to frictional torque, which was accompanied by frictional heat
generation. More than 20 materials were examined. The experimental
results were used in numerical simulations of the thermal and structural
stresses of the discs.
