Counseling Organizations
Chi Sigma Iota is the international honor society of professional counseling. It was established in 1985 through the efforts of leaders in the profession of counseling whose desire was to provide recognition for outstanding achievement as well as outstanding service within the profession. CSI was created for counselors-in-training, counselor educators, and professional counselors whose career commitment is to research and service through professional counseling.

Our mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the profession of counseling.

Master's of counseling students  with a grade point average of 3.50 or better, have completed at least 12 credit hours in the counseling program, and are a student in good standing, are eligible for Oakland University's Chi Sigma Iota - Theta Chapter. Eligible counseling faculty, professional counselors and alumni are also encouraged to apply for and maintain annual membership.

Complete an online application on the Chi Sigma Iota website (www.csi-net.org). There is a $50 membership fee, $7 of which is returned to OU for use in CSI Theta projects. The application will ask for the Chapter Faculty Adviser, who is Dr. Jennifer Bornsheuer, Ph.D., and the chapter name, which is Theta. Please be sure to pay the application fee with the secure credit card online option. We do not accept checks. You will be reminded annually via email about renewing your membership. The renewal fee is $40. Many students continue active membership as they move on to professional counselor status. Finally, send an unofficial copy of your transcript to Dr. Jennifer Bornsheuer at bornsheu@oakland.edu, or drop it off at her office, 440B Pawley Hall.

It is mandated that all CSI members are officially inducted. An induction ceremony is held twice a year.
