John C. Galloway Seminar and Study Room
The John C. Galloway Seminar and Study Room is located in 312 Wilson Hall. Named for the first chair of the department, it houses a collection of animal drawings by Galloway as well as the departmental library. It is used as a classroom for upper-level seminar classes. Students involved in La Pittura also use this room for their meetings.

Unless otherwise indicated, books may be taken from this room for study purposes, if properly signed out with Louisa Ngote, curator of visual resources, in Room 311 Wilson Hall. All books should be returned by the end of the semester. When it is not in use as a classroom, students may use this space for study and review of slides and to view videotapes and DVDs owned by the department. Students should see Ngote to borrow a CD-ROM, VHS tape or DVD.

Studio Art Rooms
Studio art rooms include a drawing studio, painting studio, black-and-white darkroom with 12 enlarger stations and a film loading room, critique/digital printing studio, digital lab, and a graphics/illustration studio/digital lab.

If you are taking classes in studio art, please remember to leave the classroom clean. Pick up your things and throw away any garbage. Remember you are not the ONLY student using the studio art classrooms. Store mineral spirits and turpentine in sealed, labeled containers in the safety cupboard, not in your locker. Do not pour anything other than water down the drain.

In the darkroom, used developer and fixer should be mixed and then properly recycled in the Silver Recovery System, not poured down the drain. When finished working in the darkroom, you should thoroughly rinse and dry all trays, graduates and sinks; replace filters in filter boxes; throw away all paper towels and stray papers; turn off safelights, fans and white lights.

In the digital lab, VCRs, TVs, the media converter and scanners should be turned off; computers should stay on.

Equipment Check Out
Digital SLR cameras, Analog SLR cameras, miniDV camcorders, tripods, microphones and light kits are available for check out from the Media Lab in 406 Wilson Hall (extension 3319) to students in certain studio art classes. Equipment reservation, check out policies and procedures will be discussed in classes. Note that students will be held responsible for repair or replacement costs for equipment that is broken, lost or not returned while checked out in their name.
